Material Matters Research Assistant

Shannon Mortimer is in her 4th and final year of Industrial Design at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Her projects at school endeavour to explore the space where 3D Printing technologies and traditional craft meet. Her grad project is currently in progress and explores using 3D printed ceramic moulds to produce slip-cast ceramic objects.

Prior to ECUAD, she studied International Relations at SFU and Joinery at BCIT.

Recently, She returned from an International Exchange Program at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University. The exchange program lasted for one semester, and provided her the unique opportunity to study Industrial Design from a different perspective.

Currently, she is working as both a Design Research Assistant at ECUAD’s Prototyping-Media-Programming Lab and a Joiner’s Apprentice at Seagull Enterprises Ltd.

Following the completion of her undergrad, she aspires to complete a Masters of Architecture at the University of British Columbia.

When not working, Shannon enjoys sailing, hiking & camping in the BC wilderness, and endeavoring to make a perfect cup of coffee!
