Alana Bartol of Neighbourhood Time Exchange longlisted for Sobey Award

Written by

Our heartfelt congratulations to Alana Bartol on being longlisted for National Gallery of Canada and Sobey Art Foundation’s 2019 Sobey Award! Established in 2002, the Sobey Art Award aims to promote new developments in contemporary Canadian art and provide opportunities for artists, bringing them national and international attention.

Alana Bartol was one of the participating artists in our 2016 – 2017 Neighbourhood Time Exchange artist residency project in Prince George, which was designed and curated by Justin Langlois. Through performance, video, drawing, and installation, Bartol’s site-responsive works explore walking and divination as ways of understanding places, species, and bodies. Of Northern European ancestry, Bartol is a settler Canadian currently living in Treaty 7 territory in Mohkínstsis/Calgary, where she teaches at Alberta University of the Arts.
