Faculty Lead, Design for Startups
Markus is an interaction designer at ED&I with a background in design and information technology. He enjoys solving complex problems by exploring a multiplicity of concepts through the use of sketching, prototyping, and testing. Markus believes in design that can positively shape our relationship with technology and he is motivated by creating meaningful, engaging, and sustainable solutions that scale.
Markus draws from his experience in the industry, design research, and design teaching through which he developed a thoughtful and empathetic design approach with a versatile skill set. Combined with his technical acumen, he can quickly generate ideas that are grounded within the technical limitations of a project and will often liaise between the creative and technical teams of a project. He occasionally also engages with the design research community, has published his research at international conferences, released a book about prototyping for interaction design, and received several awards and honours during his studies.
Markus holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Interaction Design from the University of Design (HfG) in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany and a Master of Arts in Interactive Arts & Technology from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC. When not working, Markus can most likely be found hanging from boulders, running long distances, skiing, or otherwise enjoying the great outdoors.
