Tyler Hawkins’ Customizable Font for People with Low Vision Lands Government Funding

Written by

Tyler Hawkins’ (BDes 2020) research project titled Access Font strives to benefit and accommodate the various unique needs of those living with low vision.

How Access Font works:

  • A web tool assesses the needs of individual readers
  • Those needs are translated into a tailor-made font
  • A browser extension “reads” text from the Internet, displaying it on-screen in the user’s personalized font

With newly received funding from the Government of Canada, Tyler will be collaborating with the Shumka Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship, the Health Design Lab at Emily Carr University, and Disability Alliance BC (DABC).
